Chapter 198 Which Side

Kinda late since got things to do and the chapter itself is on the longer side.That and also because I started reading Lord of Mysteries. It's not as adventurous as Wizard World, Warlock of Magus World, or Age of Adepts but it has it's own charm. Been delaying reading it for years, especially because it has trains, guns, steam engine, and stuffs.

 

Chapter 198 Which Side

 

Now then, Neferti has invited us, we ended up gathering here but I want to just take a listen to it casually.

Am I really okay being here?

This meeting room is one that can accommodate around twenty people, with a round table placed in the center.

It’s a simple room with no remarkable ornament and only have the bare minimum of chair and table.

Inside it there’s no guard nor attendants.

However despite that, right now, it is being filled to the brim with capable people who possess influence on the world’s history.

“Me have lived a long live but even for me to have these members for a conference is a first.”

“Is this have any meaning? Let’s just stop surrounding this round table and fight already, isn’t it quicker and easy that way?”

“Don’t say it like that. Do you think just how much I’ve prepared for this?”

“Oi, I get irritated if I have to sit on a chair for more than a minute. Be quick about it.”

“Is this fine? For me to be in a place like this.........”

“Be confident Lagaia. No matter if you’re being banished or got disowned, your lineage can’t be severed away.”

“Endure it-zou. Depending on the small discussion in this place after this, it will decide the fate of the world-zou.” (Kaizer)

“Especially the way they’ll deal with demihumans like us-nou.” (Barnando)

“Ara, then as a human, I who is one of the Ten Heroes of Light am also in that situation, isn’t it?” (Arusha)

“All of ‘em looks like guys with boilin’ blood. Aye, this seems interesting.” (Jackpot)

I got glared at. I don’t really get scared from it but for some reason it’s scary.

“I will take the lead of this meeting. Firstly, this was planned to be the first Summit of demon race with three countries being present, however it has gone out of order by a large margin. Despite that, this is also a miracle and should not be left to be died down, I wish that we set aside unnecessary probing and other unrelated matters of various races, to have a worthwhile talk with each other.”

Lucifer who for some reason becoming excited by the spectacle of the members present stood up and made a starting remark.

And towards that starting remark nobody made and objection, Lucifer looked at the reaction of the surroundings and nodded.

“Firstly, I shall present the rough graph of power distribution at present. Well, rather than calling it a graph of power distribution, let’s just call it the groups.” (Lucifer)

He said that then Lucifer pulled out a roll of thick paper like thing, suddenly spread it out and lay it on the round table.

It’s a bit too rough to call it a document, enclosed inside a circle, it was a list of large characters written in bold.

Indeed that if it’s being written like this, be it Holybote or anything else, I can understand that the world is starting to be grouping up regardless of their races.

In the Demihuman Continent too,  Maman is at the center of it with enthusiasm. With Eljela’s cooperation, Sky World too is adding up to it. Though, Eljela and Cosmos are here right now.

“That Sky World you see~, they’re offering their full support, so annoying aren’t they~? Rather than that, that one over there also looks like from sky people huh?”

TL note: uhh, I just wanna repeat that the ~ is used for playing the intonation when speaking rather than making it sounds playful, in case of Jarenga. Tbh that’s just my impression though.

“Prince Jarenga. Eljela is my precious friend. Don’t glare at here with that kind of eyes.” (Ura)

“Now now, Ura-san! I’m no longer just a friend.  Aren’t we a family with the same husband?” (Eljela)

“Demihuman Continent is awesome too huh. I myself don’t know anything at all about politics but when Maman got serious, his personal connections aren’t half assed at all.” (Rumba)

“Heeh, with Love and Money that I created as the reference point,  they friggin’ change the relationship of the world ain’t they.” (Kagami)

“It’s a big difference since when the world was in strife for the lands of the Divine Race Continent by the three races-dazou.” (Kaizer)

“However, lumping together all from the Demihuman Continent like that, it’s making it hard to say it’s affiliation in the World Alliance. There have been talks going on with Erosvitch, but nevertheless, I can’t say I know anything about what’s going on in her heart-nou.” (Barnando)

“Ain’t that right. Besides, I don’t really know what’s in the mind of the old man too. Well, though it’s ma fav’rite if there none to think about.” (Jackpot)

Despite that being said, right here there’s one of the Great Human Alliance’s Ten Heroes of Light which is also Arklein Kingdom’s princess, Four Heavenly Beasts Demihumans’ Yubamensch’s daughter, and likewise Isamu’s children are also here too, rather than that, so these guys around me are freaking authority figures of the World Alliances or kins of them huh......

“And so, I understand that complicated power distribution graph but what’s our part in this? I’ll say this first but, we won’t reveal the lies of the Holy King nor dismantle World Alliance alright? Since if that were to happen, human race gonna be destroyed after all.” (Velt)

“Wait, Velt. What do you mean with the Holy King’s lies?” (Ura)

“Hm? I’ll say it roughly but, when the power balance between races of the world crumbles, divine race will be revived and then destroy the races of the world, that is a lie.” (Velt)

“What did you say? Wait a sec, why is there a need to make that kind of lie! What’s the foundation of that! Once this power balance between races crumbles, isn’t it a fact that the divine race will be revived?” (Ura)

Right now, she wants to hear conclusion. Also, now that I think about it, the ones who don’t know anything about it are Ura and Eljela’s group.

Naturally, these two thought of that as the truth and moved about, worked, and spent their time for the sake of it, it’s no wonder that they’d be in disbelieve.

“Onii-chan, that’s also the first time I heard about it. What’s actually going on with it?” (Lagaia)

“Hah? Hey, that thing about the god’s revival, this great me don’t know anything about it.” (Chirotan)

“I mean, what da heck are ya talking about in the first place. That Holey King thing?” (Jackpot)

“Velt-kun, it bothers me that you said something like that so casually.” (Barnando)

“Eh, it’s like that? Then, what’s Maman been doing all this time is meaningless?” (Althea)

“What’s this all about, Mr. Groom!” (Rumba)

Those who knew about this truth, from our side are only me, Kishin, Mackey, Kaa-kun, and Arusha.

And then, by seeing the atmosphere in this place, the others that knew about it would be Lucifer, Neferti, Jarenga, and then Demon King Rakshasa who’s still silent.

“That’s right, once the power balance between the races collapse the divine race will resurrect that the Holy King hoisted up all this time. It’s actually a lie. And for that matter, Velt-shi. Also Kishin-shi. Both of you have well understood this matter right? Upon knowing that truth, and then expressed thoughts of opposition against it, I heard that the memories about both of them were erased from the world.” (Lucifer)

Naturally, upon being let know of that kind of truth they’d be shocked. I can understand their feelings where it escalated the point of where they can’t even react and lost words to say.

However, at the same time, [why?] must be the thing that appeared a lot inside their minds right now.

“In the first place, to open the seal of the divine race, it requires a number of keys. One who cannot be affected by any kind of magic, [The Power Holder of Magic Nullification], congregation beneath the six pointed star [The Six Users of Holy Magic], and then, [The Three Crest Eyes], and so forth.” (Lucifer)

“It’s not only that right, Lucifer-san? You know, something like [Shrine of Sealing] that’s been safeguarded by the cryptids......... well, what I’m pissed about is that the humans are hogging most of the keys for themselves you know? Those guys, Peace something are really irritating  aren’t they?” (Jarenga)

The keys to the divine race revival. Upon knowing that truth Ura and others became shocked, Lucifer’s and other’s story continue.

“That’s right, it’s as Jarenga-shi said, these keys are mostly have been collected by the humans. [Shrine of Sealing]. And, the holder of [Magic Nullification] power, the princess of the former Balbadie Kingdom, [the proxy of underground Mannie]. The masters of holy magic [The Six Holy Knights]. And then, the three crest eyes. You have known the holder of [Crest Eyes of Truth], Arklein Empire’s First Prince, [The True Hero Roa]. Next is the holder of [Crest Eyes of Creation], one who inherited the blood of the Friend of Heaven and Earth, the first imperial princess of the Holyend Kingdom, [Great Sky Demon Emperor Ligantina]. (Lucifer)

Amidst the sporadically appearing things that we’ve already heard, things we haven’t heard, words, and people’s names that kept coming about, we only stay silent and kept on listening.......

“If we add the holder of [Crest Eyes of Life], the princess of the former Balbadie Kingdom,  and the master of myself and Dora here,  the [Lively Holy Mother Clonia], once the other [Crest Eyes of Life] awakens, something that cannot be undone will happen.” (Lucifer)

Slam! A loud sound was heard, me and a part of the guys here hit our face onto the round table.

Wait a sec, what kind of weird name that princess has!

“But, that possibility is low isn’t it? As long as that woman is still inside our Yavai Demon Kingdom’s territory, we won’t be laying our hands on the humans and demihumans without proper plan alright?” (Jarenga)

Ignoring our reaction of slamming our head to the table, they keep on talking.

“That’s right, the purpose of our Summit is to reconcile the will of the demon race, and before the Holy King moves, we will be going ahead of them and then crush them.” (Neferti)

As Neferti who has stood up slowly going around the round table, she continued as if to warn us.

The next move of the Holy King? What are they going to do with it?

“Most probably, it would be their objective from thereafter, even as they raise those topics about friendship or anything like that, the true objective is only one. That is to secure the [Crest Eyes of Life]. And there are two ways to accomplish that. First is to try and take away Clonia-dono from Yavai Demon Kingdom as best as they can. The other way is to look for the [Subterranean World] and secure the next generation’s [Crest Eyes of Life].”

...............Hah?

“Hey, stop Neferti. I understand that the Crest Eyes are awakened from the descendants between the Three Great Unfound World. But, the possibility of that is something like a miracle. In actuality, even for Arklein, before True Hero Roa awakened it’s supposedly been several hundreds of years without any single awakener.”

“That’s right, despite with that kind of possibility to happen, it’s impossible for them to try and obtain Subterranean World after all this time right?”

It’s as Kishin and Arusha said. Even with Cosmos, the possibility of her awakening it was like a miracle.

Instead it’s an age where it’s rare for even different types of races to be assembled.

Despite that, they want to use the people from Subterranean World to make children and have them awaken at this late in time?

Isn’t it the chance of something like that happening even harsher than a lottery?

Rather than clinging to that kind of possibility, going to war against Yavai Demon Kingdom and take away Princess Clonia gonna be........

“That’s right. However, if with [Crest Eyes of Truth] they use [analysis] on subterranean race,  basing the second crest eyes off it’s tendency and others, then with the [Crest Eyes of Creation] instead of awakening the [Crest Eyes of Life], they are to [create] it instead, what do you think would happen?” (Lucifer)

It happened the moment when we spontaneously stood up in surprise.

“Wait a sec, is that kind of thing really possible! Hey, Eljela......” (Velt)

“That’s....... because of Ligantina ane-sama’s crest eyes were so powerful, it has been sealed by mother and others, I have never seen it being used directly. But, does it really have such a power?” (Eljela)

“Well, if the crest eyes were indeed to be released in it’s full, if they have the materials for it then it could be possible-zou. Once, in front of the corpses of his comrades, that strength of the True Hero Roa’s crest eyes that were driven out of control by his rage....... if only he could control that power that had defeated me.......” (Kaizer)

In the end, this might be only a supposition. However, indeed that the possibility may exist.

If they could gather up all materials, completely analyze the materials, and then create it......

“I see. Real friggin’ eh~. Really, the demon-sans don’t seem to be relaxing around all this time. Well, you need to think about so many things to avoid that from happening.” (Mackey)

“What is it? What do you mean Mackey?” (Velt)

“Well, it’s simple, Velt-kun. In short, isn’t it fine if you just get in their way of resurrecting the divine race? There are so many ways to do that.” (Mackey)

As he tilt his chair, attention simultaneously gathered towards the answer that Mackey said carefreely.

“Firstly, rather than announcing the lies of the Holy King we would be breaking down their alliance instead. If we did that, the Sky World will also pull away their hands right?” (Mackey)

I think so. But, if we do that it’d raise antipathy from other races and humans will be destroyed in one go......

“Indeed, I have thought of that at the beginning, but it has already too late. In the mere short years of truce on the Divine Race Continent, the humans, with Love and Peace at it’s head, they have changed the economy and culture of other races way too deeply. Due to internal war and conflict with other countries a part of demons and demihumans are still in disparity and impoverished, they intervened with them to circulate goods and aid by making trade propositions, the existence of humans has now become even more important. Furthermore, those who knew of the Holy King’s lies are only those in this place.  In regards to those lies, it’s not like we have concrete evidence for it. Us who are jealous of the Alliance can’t think of anything other than to make something similar as an opposition of it.” (Neferti)

I see. Now that I remember, me and Kishin did cornered Tyler and arrived at the truth, but it’s not like we have any real evidence about it.

Besides, these guys too aren’t moving about because there’s a concrete evidence.

If they make an official announcement to the world, human race already has an important role to the world, even if they were to announce the lies of the Holy King, instead I’m sure those who’ll say that the announcement without proof to be the false one will appear.

“I think what you said is true. But, since that’s the case why you guys are believing that the Holy King is telling lies?” (Velt)

Then, why these guys are like that? That point of doubt instantly got answered.

“What, it’s not like we’re moving because we really believe in it. For me I received benefits from it. This country that lacks in fighting power received the Seven Deadly Sins’ fossils..... this country also only has barren desert as it’s territory before, but now we also have received a part of the lush territory of Yavai Demon Kingdom, and some other things too.” (Neferti)

“I don’t really care about something like that though? It’s just, my father and brothers have spent a long time with that woman and ended up getting along with each her, seem they bought what she said? Even Kurai Demon Kingdom also got some compensation for it right?” (Jarenga)

“.....................................................................” (Rakshasa)

I see, so there’s some merit and demeritt o it. Well, since it’s like that then it’s easier to understand I guess.

These guys, rather than following what the Great Human Alliance Army is saying and being in half believing half doubt situation of their destruction at the hands of the divine race, are preferring their current stance instead huh.

I subtly able to assent to it.

“Hmmm, well, putting that aside..........”

And then, Mackey who got his opinion negated, without going roundabout uttered his next idea in one go.

However, it’s content is, how to say it.......

“Killing the True Hero Roa.............or instead, ....... Killing  that [Great Sky Demon Emperor Ligantina]..... is that also no go?” (Mackey)

He could speak that so grandly in front of Arusha and Eljela huh, this guy.

Those two now already went and stood up with anger on their faces.

“Heeh, ain’t that interesting? You, despite being human you sure aren’t restraining yourself, I don’t hate that you know?” (Jarenga)

“Don’t cheer on him Jarenga-dono. That would mean a total war of us against those of the World Alliance. By words, an all out war. Chirotan even weren’t able to destroy the Sky World, they also have the Hero that defeated that Sharkryuu you know? It won’t be so simple. There’re still also those top members of other races after all.” (Neferti)

“GORAA, this bandage bastard, don’t make me into an example in this! It’s not like I lost to those uggos angels!” (Chirotan)

Well, anyhow, what was suggested wasn’t anything good to solve the problem.

No matter how much Yavai Demon Kingdom is, there’s still Jigoku Demon Kingdom who holds the same amount of power on the side of the Alliance after all.

“Mackey-kun, you were unexpectedly so simplistic aren’t you not? Do you not have anything else in store?” (Barnando)

“Uheeh~, Barnando-kun, those kinds of things are the only thing that appeared in my mind you know? Yeah, next is, how about we find the Subterranean World faster than them and then destroy it? And then, we’ll go and kill Mannie-chan? See, if it’s something like a plan there are so many things that we can do ‘ight? Since it’s a brainstorming we should let out ideas more freely right? Isn’t that right~ Velt-kun?”  (Mackey)

For some reason, it’s like we’re gradually getting pulled to this guy’s merciless thoughts.

However, only Jarenga seems to be having matching thoughts with Mackey, he’s smirking happily towards Mackey’s suggestions.

Furthermore.....

“Gee, bastard you’re really.......... in the first place, Mannie was your former underling. To just kill her like that...... no well, rather, why the hell someone so important is your former underling? Is Mannie really her name?” (Velt)

“........Who knows~. Now that I think about it.....  I actually might have been tricked and being used by the Holy Knights and Mannie-chan...... well, since she has betrayed me, from my point of view, even if I still have some attachment to her I’d still sever ties with her. There’s not gonna be any mercy alright?” (Mackey)

“................ what the heck......... you got some beef with me?” (Velt)

“Not in particular~. Love is an important nourishment for a person. Since you’re not making light of it then you’re friggin’ did-splendid. Even if they were to forget about you for example.” (Mackey)

I don’t know, maybe he feels a bit resentful since it’s been a series of love dramas happening one after another these few days, nah it must be so.

Ura who’s making a bit of angry face also realized that it seems.

However, as that kind of banter passed on, for a slight instant, Mackey showed a keen expression.

“That time......  When I felt despaired at this world, had I shown her a bit of love or anything at that time..... acted more friggin’ cool, honestly named the organization as Love and Mannie....... and reunited with Velt earlier.....would something have changed? .........Mannie-chan.........” (Mackey)

This fiend of a scum bastard. He at times made that expression like from highschool in previous life. And at other times he’s like brimming with anger.

Mackey showed those kinds of expressions, but this is  actually the first he showed something like that.

This guy can make that kind of face? This might sounds like a lie but for an instant there Mackey’s expression looks like thinking of someone far away with kind look.

However, it was just for an instant, Mackey immediately returned back to his usual expression.

“But still~ to be honest, the problem isn’t over there. You can tell right? Velt-kun.” (Mackey)

“Ah?” (Velt)

“Yavai Demon Kingdom, Yami Demon Kingdom, and Kurai Demon Kingdom, much less to say about how Holy King will move, those are unrelated. The thing that has friggin’ connection to us is, Velt-kun, only how you will move in this situation.”(Mackey)

And so, despite this guy being irritated, he went and touched the essence of the problem.

“Me, Kishin-kun, and Kaa-kun, we three started from you. From your plan of world conquest ‘ight. This matter’s friggin’ important.” (Mackey)

“.........Mackey...............” (Velt)

“Now then, Velt-kun. In this situation, what’s your next move?” (Mackey)

With the current condition got sorted out once again, what’s important is not how others will move, but how I’d move instead.

TL note: phew, the author often got me confused with his sentence arrangements.

And then, other guys too, they agreed, albeit mortified...... they’re looking at me with those kind of expressions.

“That’s right, Velt Jeeha. You have married Princess Ura, from the point of view of demon’s side, it’s as if a name has suddenly risen into fame overnight, you’ve become an important existence.” (Neferti)

“It’s as Neferti-shi said. Velt-shi, the plans have largely changed, what’s more on your side you have Kishin-shi, Chirotan-shi, Lagaia-shi, and even along with one of the Four Heavenly Beast Demihumans. Your decisions, it is no longer something that you can decide arbitrarily anymore.” (Lucifer)

Neferti and Lucifer are of same opinion. And those eyes, they’re awaiting the critical moment with their gaze, looking as if holding a resolution deep inside.

“Velt-shi. The reason I honestly told you all of that was because that’s what our side wanted. Dora-shi also strongly wished for that. It is because at the time when we rescued him from the Holy Knight’s captive, even as he flew into Clonia’s arms, what he said ahead of everything else was to save you, and the safety of his comrades.” (Lucifer)

“Dora did that?” (Velt)

“He did. For him, more than the resurrection of the divine race......... the safety of all of you are way more important.” (Lucifer)

At that moment, the sight of Dora who is flying over while crying and leaking out snot suddenly flashed in my mind.

Ura and Eljela might be thinking the same too.

And, at the same time, it is for Dora’s sake, for Ura’s sake, it’s as if they’re wishing for us to join their side.

“Of course, if it ended up becoming an all out war with the World Alliance, we’ll guarantee the safety of your important people. Because you, Princess Ura, and your friends too, must have people that you think precious of.” (Neferti)

If we’re trying to seriously stop the Holy King and divine race’s revival, it’s not a bad idea.

Even if they’re demon race, just like in the marriage ceremony earlier, if they were to open their hearts those guys would also able to accept it. Even if we’re composed of various races.

Yes, we got these, good natured and cozy people with us. Well, there’s some like Jarenga too though, despite that, becoming Lucifer’s comrade here might be the right decision.

However.......

“But, don’t repeat the same thing like what happened in the marriage ceremony...........” (Velt)

Despite I didn’t think it deeply, my mouth moved by itself and then I stood up.

“This has nothing to do with being humans, demons, or demihumans. It’s not about which side to stick with, because, I have precious people no matter which side they came from, I’ve been worrying about this and confined myself for two years. If Forna were to be killed by you guys, then I’ll massacre all of you.  If Ura and Eljela were to be killed by humans, I’ll kill those humans. There’s no end to it right? No matter which side I’ll go to, there are guys that I don’t want to go against with.” (Velt)

My answer has been decided since that day I escaped from the prison.

Isn’t that right? Mackey? Despite you understood my answer, for the sake of confirming whether it has already changed or not you asked those things purposely, right ? The moment I saw his grinning face, it’s very obvious.

“I’m not interested with the war happening at the backside of the world. At beginning, if Forna and others aren’t die, I’d be glad with just that. But, now, not caring about whoever died, nor  not caring about what people would say, now I already unable to do that anymore. I’ve already met too many people. Now I’m holding onto too many connections. All of them,  I’ve already gotten along with them, I don’t want them to die.” (Velt)

That day, for the sake of fighting my battles, I’ve already made my decision.

“It is the same right now. I was able to easily get along with a good natured demihuman, I got to have a cute little brother despite we don’t have any blood relation and from different race, connect my heart with a woman of different race, and even have a child. I also even got blessed by the guys I just met today. I don’t want to lose that. But, to protect that, what I have to do isn’t stopping the Holy King, nor obstruct the revival of the divine race.” (Velt)

Actually, maybe everyone ain’t mistaken.

Be it these guys , the demihumans, or Holy King along with Tyler and his group.

That’s why, picking which side and who to make an enemy with, if I have to make that kind of choice, then I’ve already decided what to pick since that day.

Since I have to make an enemy out of someone no matter what, I’ll take them all on.

“I’ll go to the Divine Race Continent now, and conquer the world. If you want to fight, fight against me.” (Velt)

If the reason for fighting and destruction is gone in the first place, everyone won’t do this kind of thing.

Exacerbating hatred and justice, robbing, being robbed, then repeat, over and over.

I’m already sick of it.
